Eve Organics Frequently Asked Questions
Why Should I Use Mineral Makeup?
Minerals have been used in cosmetics for years. The only difference is that, for the sake of profit, large cosmetic companies add fillers and dyes to bring the production costs down and generate more profit. Unfortunately, these additives usually cause irritation, clog pores and some (such as talc, fragrance, parabens and phthalates) are potentially toxic. Pure mineral makeup foundations are actually anti-inflammatory and soothing to skin conditions such as rosacea and acne. Most conscious mineral makeup companies keep the particle size of their mineral makeup products large enough so that the skin cannot absorb it into the pores. Carefully formulated mineral makeup can also give your skin a healthy radiance and youthful glow that most conventional makeup cannot.
Why Loose Minerals vs Liquid Foundation?
Loose mineral cosmetics are minerals in their most natural form. When applied, mineral makeup is lightweight and natural looking. It feels as if there is nothing on the skin. When cosmetic companies create a liquid foundation, a wide array of ingredients are added. Among these ingredients are petrochemicals, dyes and preservatives. The skin is the largest organ of the body and absorbs what is applied to it. These hazardous ingredients are absorbed into the skin, causing acne and other negative effects. Pure, unadulterated minerals are inert (meaning they cannot grow bacteria) and therefore need no preservatives. Consequently, they last until they’re gone with no worries of expiration dates.
Where Do I Start When I’m New to Mineral Makeup?
The most challenging part of using mineral makeup is choosing the right color foundation for your skin tone. Our website provides general guidelines such as what color typically looks good on your individual skin tone. Obviously the best way is to try on several colors, but that could be costly if you do not live by our home office or a one of our retailers. Therefore, we offer sample packets for $1.00. This allows individuals to try several different colors without purchasing full size products.
Our website offers general guidelines for what type of skin tone usually works with each foundation and we do have a way to start your search for the right Eve Organics foundation. You can start by looking at the veins on the inside of your wrist. If they look blue, you have a neutral undertone and would use one of our neutral based foundations. If your veins look green, you have a yellow undertone and would use one of our olive based foundations. Last, if your veins look purple, you have reddish undertone and would use one of our red based foundations. For a person of color, you can categorize your color as light medium or dark, unless you are of African decent, in which case you would be our Dark Cool foundation.
Once you have chosen a color range that you feel will work for you and are still unsure of the exact foundation, you can order sample sizes of two or three shades that vary slightly. Once you receive these colors, use your finger and smear a small line of each foundation on your cheek. The one that blends with your skin the best will be the right foundation for you.
You don’t have to buy a lot of products to get started. Two products are essential, foundation and a bronzer or blush. The brushes are very important to the application. Please see our website for application instructions.
What’s the Difference Between Your Mineral Makeup and Other Brands?
It seems most of the cosmetic companies these days are jumping on the mineral makeup bandwagon. Unfortunately, this leads to confusion when it comes to consumers knowledge of what is good or bad for them. A lot of these companies are putting out inferior product to increase sales. In essence, they take a small quantity of pure minerals, add inexpensive fillers, dyes and additives to increase volume and make that small amount of pure minerals go much further. Eve Organics has come up with a “Dirty Dozen” list of ingredients to stay away from when purchasing any type of personal care products. These ingredients, which are common in many items on the shelves today, have been linked to certain health risks and should be avoided.
An extremely popular filler for most mineral makeup companies is Bismuth Oxychloride. Technically it is natural (a bi-product of copper and lead refining), so they can get away with calling their mineral makeup all natural. But, bismuth is an irritant, which causes itching and burning in many people, and should be avoided.

What if I have Sensitive Skin?
Mineral makeup is actually sold in many dermatologist offices because of its healing qualities. It is very rare to have a reaction to pure mineral makeup since it is free of all of the additives and fillers, which are usually the culprits of allergic reactions. Post-procedure skin, rosacea and other sensitive skin is very receptive to pure mineral makeup. The calming zinc oxide in loose mineral foundation is anti-inflammatory and, in combination with titanium dioxide, naturally protects the skin from the sun’s UVA and UVB rays at a very high level.
